Abstract

1,248,368. Dummy shuttles. RUTI MACHINERY WORKS Ltd. 19 Feb., 1970 [19 Feb., 1969], No. 8129/70. Heading D1E. A dummy shuttle for a travelling wave loom is of U-section and has an open passage 34 in the upper portion which facilitates removal of fluff. The shuttle is loaded by pressing it downwards over a cone 44 carrying a coil 43 of weft thread, the coil being gripped between pads 20, 21, of foam rubber covered by nylon fabric and removed from the cone 44, which is slightly tapered, when the shuttle moves to the left, Fig. 1. Any fluff on the pads 20, 21, or thread brake 26, is pushed upwards into space 34 and removed with the cone, or wiped away by the thread running out from the thread guide 39 and brake 26, the removal being assisted by air flowing through passage 34 during the shuttle motion.
