Abstract

1,248,347. Moulding rotor blades. MESSERSCHMITT - BOLKOW - BLOHM G.m.b.H. 3 July, 1969 [4 July, 1968], No. 33637/69. Heading B5A. A process of producing rotor blades according to application 43274/68, and using a two-part mould with sleeves therein around which loops are to be formed comprises laying the strands of each group in the mould successively commencing with the strand of the group nearest an edge of the blade, deflecting each strand at the blade root as it is laid away from the associated sleeve of the mould and securing each strand in its deflected position, and after all of the strands of each group have been laid and secured, winding the strands of each group successively around the associated sleeve to form the required loop, commencing with the strand of each group laid last in the mould and thus nearest the sleeve in the mould associated with its group. A half mould 1 with wedges 7, 8 and a core 6 has sleeves 4, 5 around which fibre strands 9 extending from the blade tip are to be wound. The strands, forming strips 2, 3 are laid against wedges 10, 11 and their ends are deflected and clamped in devices 12, 13, in the order a, a 1 , b, b 1 after which they are wound individually around their sleeves in the order z, z 1 , y, y<SP>1</SP> so that the outermost strands on the main part of the blade are also outermost around the sleeves.
