Abstract

1,247,952. Spray producers. G. W. MEEK. 5 Feb., 1969 [12 Feb., 1968], No. 6206/69. Heading B2F. A spray nozzle comprises an orifice faired to a wide angle outlet lip and spinner means 50 in the body of the nozzle above the orifice for imparting a rotary motion to the liquid passing through the nozzle, the lower surface 58 of the outlet lip having undulations with alternating peaks 60 and troughs disposed in streamline flow from the orifice to the outer portions of the lip, constraining the liquid spray substantially to homogeneously cover a square or rectangular area. The spinner means may be a rotor, and the nozzle may have a replaceable orifice whereby an appropriately sized orifice may be provided. The undulations may be spirally offset from the centre to accommodate the spiral motion of the liquid. The nozzle may be used to spray water on to cellular fills in cooling towers and may be supplied from manifolds to which they are attached by quick release, e.g. bayonet, fastenings. The nozzles may be made of ceramic, plastics or cast metal.
