Abstract

1,247,853. Regulating. H. GUSSENBAUER and K. GUSSENBAUER. Dec. 6, 1968 [Sept. 13, 1967], No.41776/67. Heading F1B. A throttle operating shaft 5 can be held set at any angular position by holding coil springs 18, 7, operation of the clutch or brake pedal releasing the spring 7 to permit the shaft to return to idling position. Shaft 5 passes through a stationary drum 2A and carries a second drum 2B surrounded by the spring 7, the drum 2B being rotatable with shaft 5 but slidable axially thereon. A third drum 15 freely rotatable on shaft 5 and surrounded by spring 18 is carried around by a flange 4 on drum 2B carrying balls 8 engaging recesses 16. Spring 7 has one and enclosed in the drum 2A and the other end 7B enclosed in a slot 11 in a spring-loaded slidable sleeve 10, a projecting pin 12 of which is actuated by a cam 13A, 13 on a slide 3, Fig. 5, which has slots 22 in which the ends of spring 18 engage. During normal operation pin 12 is engaged by cam face 13B whereby sleeve 10 is rotated to loosen spring 7 and free the drum 2B and to allow free rotation of shaft 5. Simultaneously the slots 22 hold the ends of spring 18 apart so that drum 15 is free on the shaft 5. To clamp the throttle shaft in a predetermined position, Bowden cable 20a is actuated to move slide 3 to the right, whereby pin 12 moves to a recess in cam 13A, 13B, to cause spring 7 to tighten and hold drum 2B and slots 22 also move the ends of spring 18 together and tighten it on drum 15 and hold it stationary. Operation of the clutch or brake pedals while the shaft 5 is held clamped actuate cables 20B or 20C, to move slide 3 further to the right whereby cam face 13A rotates sleeve 10 to slacken the spring on drum 2B and permit shaft 5 to return to the idling position, drum 15 remaining held clamped by spring 18. If the accelerator is depressed further while the shaft 5 is clamped, balls 8 are forced out of recesses 16 and move sleeve 10 to the left, oblique teeth 10A thereon engaging stationary teeth 9A to rotate the sleeve 10 to loosen the spring 7 and free the shaft. On release of the pedal, shaft 5 returns until balls 8 re-engage in the recesses 16, whereby sleeve 10 returns and spring 7 reclamps the shaft 5 in the original position. In a modification the springs 7, 18 are controlled by solenoids 25A, 25B, Fig.10, the circuits of which are controlled by a manually operated switch 37. Switches 31, 33, 35 operated by clutch, brake and accelerator pedals de-energize solenoid 25A to loosen spring 7 and cancel its clamping action.
