Abstract

1,247,794. Polyolefin moulding compositions. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 14 Feb., 1969 [17 Feb., 1968], No. 8092/69. Heading C3P. A thermoplastic moulding composition comprises an olefin polymer and (a) a powdered asbestos having a water content of from 2 to 4% by weight; and (b) as an adhesion promoter a polyurethane derived from (I) an aliphatic saturated C 4 -C 12 diisocyanate and (II) an aliphatic C 4 -C 12 diol and having a molecular weight of from 2000 to 25,000. The composition typically contains 25-50 parts by weight of asbestos per 100 parts of olefin polymer and 0À1-70 parts by weight of adhesion promoter for each 100 parts of asbestos. The compositions may also contain pigment dyes, stabilizers, slip additives and fillers. An example is directed to a moulding composition comprised of polypropylene (having a high-load melt index of from 10 to 35 and a 10-30% fraction soluble in boiling n-heptane), chrysotile asbestos, preferably of particle size less than 0À1 mm., and a polyurethane derived from hexamethylene diisocyanate and 1,4-butanediol (or 1,4-butenediol).
