Abstract

1,247,653. Ear-rings. H. ABRAMOWITZ. 13 March, 1970, No. 12267/70. Heading A3H. [Also in Division A5] A ear piercing apparatus comprises a hollow needle 12 bent into a press button at its proximal end 28, a slotted tube 14 attached to an ornamental ball 16, and an auxiliary cutting tube 15 sleeved over the distil end of the needle. In operation a plastic anvil 21 is held against the inside of the ear lobe 22, the push button is pressed and the needle penetrates the lobe cutting a passage entered by the tubes until the ball engages the outside of the lobe. The anvil, the auxiliary cutting tube and the needle are then removed leaving the slotted tube 14 and the ball 16 on the ear. A ear-ring is then formed by securing a ball fastening 18 to the free end of the slotted tube. The bore of this ball fastener may be lined with rubber or friction gripping material. The slot in the tube is longer than the width of the ear lobe to allow air to the ear hole so quicken the healing of the punctured surface and promote drainage in cases of infection. A rod 20 is provided for cleaning out the bore of the tube. This is done after the ear rings have been worn for a length of time. If the ball fastener is removed, a rubber squeeze bulb 44 with an outlet 46 containing a medicament or perfume 48 may be placed over the free protruding end of the slotted tube and liquid forced through the elongated slot (Fig. 10). While squeezing the bulb the opening in the ball 16 may be closed by a finger.
