Abstract

1,247,392. Ketene recovery. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 14 Feb., 1969 [17 Feb., 1968], No. 8091/69. Heading C2C. Ketene is recovered from crude ketene, which has been obtained by thermal cleavage of acetic acid followed by precooling, by passing the crude ketene through a cooling zone, e.g. at - 80‹ to - 10‹ C., having a plurality of liquid outlets along its length adjacent to the path travelled by the vapour, thereby condensing the major portion of the acetic acid and water contained in the crude ketene and immediately separating the condensate through the liquid outlets, then directing the ketene thus purified against baffles, e.g. at - 80‹ to 0‹ C., and separating the further impurities which occur in liquid form on the baffles. A dwell zone may be provided between the cooling zone and the baffles.
