Abstract
1,247,141. Strainers in the downpipes from roof gutters. M. HUPPERT. 16 Jan., 1970 [18 Jan., 1969; 15 July, 1969], No. 2250/70. Heading BID. Overflowing rainwater is prevented from causing damage to a downpipe 3 from a roof gutter, which pipe has a portion 1 provided with a strainer 6 (for collecting leaves and other refuse) and a wall-opening 5 which can be covered or uncovered by a sliding sleeve 11, by surrounding the outside of the pipe portion, beneath the opening, with an annular chamber 9 which communicates with the interior of the pipe portion via wall apertures 10. When the strainer is clogged, the water flows through the opening 5 into the annular chamber 9 and from there into the interior of the pipe portion below the strainer. When the amount of refuse accumulating on the strainer is such that it extends above the top edge of the opening 5, the incoming water rises in the pipe portion 1, emerges through corrugations 4 and flows down the outside of the pipe portion into annular chamber 9 and then via slots 10 into the interior of the pipe portion. In its lowest position, sliding sleeve 11 extends partially into chamber 9 and rests on radial pins 12. To uncover opening 5, sleeve 11 is released from resilient catch 13 and moved upwards. Longitudinal guides 16 facilitate the movement of sleeve 11.
