[Also in Divisions A4 and F2] In a fuel dispenser computer a flowmeter shaft 14, Fig. 1, drives volume register 15 and, via a nine-step cone gear 26, range arm mechanisms 30-32 engaging steps on gear 26 corresponding to three decimal places to set the force per unit volume, indicated at 69, and having output shafts 72 to differentials 36, 38 and sleeve 18 driving cost register 20. A price selector shaft 48 is first rotated to indicate the selection at 125 and set the variators 40, after which nozzle 205 is removed, arm 203 turned for control 54 to reset the register mechanically or electrically via shaft 52 and automatically position the range arms on cone 26. Rotating shaft 48, Figs. 2, 5, raises lever 134 via notched disc 133 and roller 136 to engage hooked crank 131, so that levers 140, 142 lift range arm slide 60 along splined shaft 66 against spring 110 and the range arm 74-77, Fig. 3, comes off cone 26. Shaft 48 via gears 128, 129 rotates cam cylinder 120 whose depressions 123 allow a selected pawl 122, 114 to be spring-pressed on the edge of a selected price disc 110 having an edge notch 112, the discs-there may be nine-each being liftable on shaft 66 and individually rotatably settable pins 124 in slots of fixed discs 126. Reset control 54 is actuated to turn shaft 161 and ratchet 160 to engage pawl 162 on disc cam 164, 196 (operating pawl 192 holding ratchet 190 to fix shaft 66 for a time before setting) and rotate shaft 52 and, via pawl 166, rack 155 against spring 156, the rack turning shaft 66 via gears 154, 152, 150 until pawl 166 is released by roller 180, whereupon spring 156 rotates rack 155 reversely under control of damper 181 to turn shaft 66 and price discs 110 anti-clockwise until the selected pawl 114 snaps in notch 112 of the selected disc to hold the disc, shaft 66 and range arm in the selected position. Cam 200 on disc 164 acts on hook crank 137 at 202 to release lever 134 on to notched disc 133 and lower slide 60 whereby the range arm gear 77 moves down on to the selected cone gear step. Flowmeter shaft 14 then drives the cost register via gears 77, 76 and shaft 72. The cammed rack 90, Figs. 3, 4, positions the arm via gears 92, 96, 98 from shaft 66 and can lock gear 77 on to detent 80 for resetting the price discs. The arm is also locked in selected position by notch wheel 102 engaging detent 104. Range arm 32 may be manually set and an interlock provided between shaft 48 and arm 203. Apparatus (Figs. 7, 8, not shown), controlled from shaft 48, may selectively add or subtract the output of one range arm from the others. The variator may be used for dispensing a single fluid, a mixture when using bland gearing, proportioning valve and adding differential (Fig. 9, not shown), or a multiple product dispenser, each nozzle holder having a control for selecting the product, adjusting adding differentials and using on register (Fig. 10, not shown).
