Abstract

1,246,947. Milling; grinding. SOGETRAM S.A. 4 March, 1970 [5 March, 1969], No. 10379/70. Headings B3D and B3K. An apparatus for milling or grinding under water comprises a milling cutter or grinding wheel 1, Fig. 1, driven by a sealing-tight electric motor 5 through a magnetic torque-limiting device 4, and a flexible shaft 3, the motor being supplied with current through a sealing-tight flexible cable 6 from a frequency changer 7 located on the surface, and driven by a fixed speed electric motor 9. The frequency changer 7 is driven by a belt and pulley drive 10, 12, 13, and pulley 13 is an expansible pulley for varying the speed of changer 7. A step-up gear drive may be included in device 4, Fig. 3 (not shown).
