1,246,798. Setting-up machine tools. WARNER SWASEY ASQUITH Ltd. 3 Sept., 1968 [15 Sept., 1967], No. 41810/68. Divided out of 1,246,796. Headings B3B and B3T. A method of setting-up a machine tool having a tool carrying turret comprising the steps of establishing a datum plane on the turret or part mounted on the turret, the plane being located at a predetermined distance from a surface on a work-holder 340 and against which the workpiece abuts when located in the machine, presetting tools on a jig separate from the machine tool with respect to a reference surface simulating the datum plane and positioning the preset tools on the turret at a location corresponding to the datum plane relating to the preset location thereof. The setting of the datum plane is effected by an adjustable gauge member 344 which is located against a face of a workholder 340 and against which a face of a turret tool carrier is brought into abutment and subsequently clamped to establish the datum plane. The jig is described and claimed in Specification 1.246,796.
