Abstract

A rear push-button actuated, retractable ball-point pen has a tiltable control member 6 interposed between the push-button 5 and the refill 3. The control member 6 has two latches 6<SP>1</SP> and 6<SP>11</SP> for engagement with first and second annular abutments 1<SP>1</SP> and 1<SP>11</SP> formed on the interior of the upper part of a two part housing 1. With the pen in the retracted position (Fig. 7) pressure is applied to the push-button 5 to move the control member 6 axially and laterally so that latch 6<SP>1</SP> engages abutment 1<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 8. Releasing the pressure allows the retracting spring (4, Fig. 1) to pivot the control member 6 about its latch 6<SP>1</SP>, so that the second latch 6<SP>11</SP> engages the abutment 1<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 9) thereby retaining the refill in the projected position. Further pressure on the push-button causes the control member 6 to move axially and laterally so that latch 6<SP>11</SP> engages abutment 1<SP>11</SP> (Fig. 10). Releasing the pressure allows the spring to pivot the control member 6 about its latch 6<SP>11</SP>, so that latch 6<SP>1</SP> misses the abutment 1<SP>1</SP> and the refill, control member and push-button take up the fully retracted position (Figs. 11 and 7). The push-button is formed with spaced, parallel, downwardly extending lugs (5<SP>11</SP>, Fig. 6) provided with inwardly projecting pins which engage oval recesses (V, Figs. 5 and 6) formed in the sides of the control member 6.
