Abstract
1, 246, 683. Testing abrasion resistance. DAYCO CORP. Oct. 22, 1968 [Dec. 1, 1967 No.50073/68. Heading G1S. A device for testing the abrasion resistance of materials such as elastomeric and plastics materials comprises a rotatable container 34 and means for reciprocating a specimen 27 into and out of abrasive material in the container while the container is rotating. The abrasive material may be sand, gravel, pumice, &c. and the container is rotated by a belt 33 and a motor 31. A motor 12 rotates a disc 19 to which a rod 21 is connected by an eccentrically mounted pin 20 thus causing reciprocating movement of a sleeve 23 connected by a pin 22 to the rod. The specimen 27 is connected by a pin 26 to the sleeve and guides 24, 29 are provided. The wear on the specimen is measured by weighing the specimen before and after the test.
