Abstract

1,246,630. Railings; ladders. W. C. COOMBS. 23 Sept., 1968 [4 Oct., 1967], No. 45289/67. Headings E1B and E1S. [Also in Division B3] A tube 6 is fixed in a tube 2 by deforming the tube 6 with a ferrule 4 as it is inserted in the tube 2. The joint may be used in making ladders and pedestrian barriers, and each part of the joint may be made from the same or a different material, e.g. aluminium alloy or a toughened plastics. The tube 6 may be of circuiar section and the tube 2 of square or rectangular section with reinforcement, if necessary, to prevent penetration by the ferrule of the wall 20 opposite opening 10. A section of barrier (24), Fig. 6 and 7 (not shown), is joined to supports (26) by cleats (28), the top of the supports being closed, preferably by plastics caps (34).
