Abstract

1,246,462. Vapour-liquid contact column. ATOMIC ENERGY OF CANADA Ltd. 26 Sept., 1968 [3 Oct., 1967], No. 45811/68. Heading B1R. A vapour-liquid contact column comprises a number of superposed stages, each stage comprising segmental shaped conduits 1 and 9 conveying liquid from and to a higher and a lower stage respectively, a perforated plate 4 supporting packing 2 and through which liquid from conduit 1 and vapour from the stage below flow co-currently and an annular trough 6 in which liquid collects at the top of the packing 2 to flow into the conduit 9 to the next lower stage. The packing may comprise a stack of corrugated perforated plates. In another embodiment vapour rising from one stage bypasses the stage above and liquid from a stage is passed to the stage below the next lower stage.
