Abstract

A tolerance ring assembly for mounting a cylindrical member 2 such as a rolling bearing, comprises a helical coil 3 having several turns in which each turn consists of a series of curved crests joined by intermediate portions, and retaining means 5 adjacent each end of the coil to restrict its length. The retaining means may comprise radial flanges carried by a shroud ring 4 or by the cylindrical member 2, or may consist of axially-directed flanges (10, 12) (Fig. 3, not shown) which are resiliently urged together. The ring may be of copper-plated carbon steel, or the members 2, 4 may be of brass, in which case the ring is of stainless steel.
