Abstract

1,246,102. Blasting. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 29 Oct., 1968, No. 51314/68. Heading F3A. A method of blasting an underground rockface comprises introducing an explosive charge into a borehole in the rock face, sealing off the rockface from the remainder of the working by means of a water-containing layer in the form of a non-running paste or foam applied to the rockface or in the form of a wall of non-running foam spaced from the rockface, and detonating the explosive charge. The paste comprises guar meal and water and includes air or an inert gas such as nitrogen and carbon dioxide. The water is used as an aqueous solution of substances which have a flame-extinguishing effect or which will absorb the nitrous gases given off with each detonation, e.g. the chlorides, carbonates and phosphates of the alkali metals and alkaline earth metals.
