Abstract

1,245,624. Treating hydrocarbon feedstocks. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 6 Dec., 1968 [28 Dec., 1967], No. 58112/68. Heading C5E. Fouling of process equipment by hydrocarbon feedstocks, e.g. crudes intended for distillation, cracking, hydrogenation, is reduced by adding to the feedstocks prior to heating them a small amount of a condensation product (1) and a phosphite compound (2), or the reaction product of (1) and (2). Product (1) comprises the reaction product of an organic mono- or di-carboxylic acid, or an anhydride of either, having an average molecular weight between 600 and 5000, with an alkylene polyamine. Compound (2) has the formula where R 1 , R 2 , R 3 are one of: alkyl, aryl, alkaryl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl, chlorine substituents thereof, and hydrogen, and (2) may be reacted with the polyamine and their product reacted with the acid or anhydride. A polyalkylene polyamine may be used, and other known antifoulants and additives may be added to the feedstock.
