Abstract

1,245,345. Benzene sulphonic acid derivatives. CIBA-GEIGY A.G. 9 April, 1969 [9 April, 1968], No. 18164/69. Heading C2C. [Also in Division G2] 2 - Nitro - 6 - stearoylaminotoluene - 4 - sulphonic acid is prepared by treating 2-amino-6- nitrotoluene-4-sulphonic acid in pyridine at boiling point with stearoyl chloride. 1-Methoxy- 3 - nitro - 6 - stearoylaminobenzene - 4 - sulphonic acid is prepared similarly using 1-nitro-3- methoxy - 4 - aminobenzene - 6 - sulphonic acid. 5 - Nitro - 2 - methyl - octadecyl - aminobenzenesulphonic acid is prepared by boiling an aqueous solution of sodium 2-chloro-5-nitrobenzene sulphonate to which has been added methyl-octadecylamine, isopropanol and sodium bicarbonate. 4 - Methyl - octadecylamino - 3 - aminobenzene sulphonic acid is prepared by mixing iron, hydrochloric acid, glacial acetic acid and water, which mixture has been refluxed, with alcohol and 5 - nitro - 2 - methyl - octadecylaminobenzene sulphonic acid (prepared as above). 5 - (3,5 - Dinitrobenzoylamino) - 2 - methyloctadecylaminobenzene sulphonic acid is prepared by adding 3,5-dinitrobenzoyl chloride to 4- methyloctadecylamino - 3 - aminobenzene sulphonic acid (prepared as above) in diethylaniline heated to 100‹ C. The resulting substance is suspended in water at 95‹ C. and mixed with 2N sodium carbonate solution to give a clear solution which is mixed at 60‹ C. with 2N sodium carbonate solution to give the sodium salt of the desired compound. 3-(3,5- dinitrobenzoylamino) - 4 - methyloctadecylaminobenzene sulphonic acid is obtained similarly.
