Abstract

1,245,235. Boots &c. DUO INTERNATIONAL Inc. 11 Nov., 1968 [10 Nov., 1967]. No. 51196/67. Heading A3B. A method of preparing shoe upper assemblies includes the steps of securing together an outer and a lining of an upper assembly, skiving marginal portions of the outer and lining after they have been secured together, and thereafter folding the skived portions to form a finished folded edge, the skiving and folding being effected on those portions which provide in the shoe upper assembly an edge which is exposed to view in the finished shoe e.g. the top line. The lining and upper may be secured together by an adhesive e.g. a polyester resin, and the folded edge may also be secured by the adhesive, the adhesive bond being consolidated by heat and pressure e.g. in a high frequency electric press. Reinforcements, e.g. stiffeners, and a tape along the edge of the assembly, are bonded to the lining before it is secured to the upper. The skived margin is concave so that a major part of the skived margin is of thin cross section and includes a groove along which the folding takes place.
