Abstract
1,244,819. Reels for harvesters. UNIVERSAL HARVESTER CO., Inc. 27 May, 1970, No. 25404/70. Heading A1F. A modular reel structure 10 for harvesting machinery and the like, is composed of a plurality of modules 11, the length of the reel being decided by the number of modules incorporated. Each module 11 has a hollow centre shaft 12 with apertured flanges 13, 14 at its ends, whereby the shaft is rigidly connected by means of mounting collars 21, mounting flanges 26, 27 and bolts to hollow drive spiders 17 located between the ends of adjacent shafts 12. Near the outer ends of spider arms 18, the bat boards 46 are each pivotally connected to the arms by means of hangers 42, 43 welded to a pivot tube located in the arm, and hangers 47 welded to a carrier shaft located in the board 46 these tubes being pivotally connected by pin 50. The batboards 46 are hence rigidly fastened to each other but swing freely relative to arms 18. At each end of the structure a control spider 52 is connected to the respective drive spiders 17, located at the ends, by links 55, spider 52 rotating about a stub shaft 53 journalled in bearings in the propelling vehicle.
