Abstract

1,244,762. Blending textiles. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 16 Aug., 1968 [16 Aug., 1967], No. 392179/68. Heading D1P. [Also in Division C2] Textile materials, e.g. polyacrylonitrile and acrylonitrile copolymers, are optically brightened by contacting the materials with a compound of the general formulae wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R 1 represents a hydrogen or a halogen atom, an alkyl or alkoxy group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R 2 represents a halogen atom, an alkyl or alkoxy group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R 3 represents an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, X- represents an anion, and Y represents a halogen atom, a cyano or a carboxylic acid ester group which is attached to the benzene ring by the carbon atom of the carboxylic acid group. The compounds are preferably used in an acid pH-range, e.g. 2 to 5, and may be used in the presence of an oxidising bleaching agent, e.g. sodium chlorite. Dispersants, e.g. sodium pyrophosphate, may be present to facilitate the formation of aqueous dispersions of the agent.
