Abstract
124,467. Bryant, C. W., and Brotherhood, Ltd., P. Jan. 13, 1916. Pressure-regulating valves.-A pressure-regulating valve for use with apparatus for launching torpedoes has the valve member fitted with a balancing piston, and is loaded by fluid pressure from an auxiliary reservoir acting on one side of the actuating piston. As shown in Fig. 1, air is admitted from the main reservoir b through a valve chamber c having a piston d which, is not airtight and an outlet e leading to an auxiliary control valve f. When the valve f is opened to the atmosphere, the piston d rises and admits compressed air to a balanced valve g. The valve g is connected to a piston k by a rod h, and the pressure in the chamber l is controlled from an auxiliary receiver m which is connected through a stop valve n to the reservoir b, and the pressure in which is adjusted to be lower than that in the reservoir b and equal to the uniform pressure desired. If the pressure above the piston k rises, the piston is depressed in the chamber l and closes the valve g so that the pressure upon the torpedo never exceeds the safe limit. In a modification, the valve g remains closed or nearly closed until the valve d is open, and means are provided whereby the air is gradually admitted to the intermediate vessel.
