Abstract

1,244,639. Foundry mould compositions. TSENTRALNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT TEKHNOLOGII MASHINOSTROENIA. 10 Sept., 1968, No. 42925/68. Heading C3N. A self-hardening composition comprises a particulate filler, aqueous sodium or potassium silicate, a hardening agent containing dicalcium silicate, an anionic or non-ionic foaming agent water, and abietic resin or a salt thereof, e.g. the sodium salt. The filler may be quartz sand. The hardening agent may be slag from ferrochrome production. The foaming agent may be an alkyl sulphate, an alkylaryl sulphonate, or a polyoxyethylene condensate. These may be present by weight 85-90% filler, 5-6% silicate solution which may have s.g. 1À48 and modulus 2À7, 4-5% hardening agent, 0À01-0À1% foaming agent, and 0À1-1À0% resin or salt, which may be added as a solid or as an alkaline solution of the resin containing 10-15% weight of the salt. The mixture may be used for making foundry cores and moulds.
