Abstract

1,244,631. A.C. generators with D.C. excitation. SIEMENS A.G. 26 Aug., 1968 [24 Aug., 1967], No. 40783/68. Heading H2A. A synchronous electrical generator is combined with its excitation apparatus comprising first and second transformers 3, 4 whose primary windings are respectively connected to carry the generator load current and a smaller current dependent upon the generator terminal voltage and whose secondary windings are connected mutually in series and in series with the input to the generator excitation rectifier 2, and connected in parallel wholly with the A.C. side of the rectifier are thyristors 7 and resistor or inductor means 6 which when the thyristors are rendered conductive divert from rectifier 2 some, e.g. 10%, of the transformer secondary current thereby to reduce the generator excitation. Also in parallel with the rectifier 2 is a capacitor 5 tuned to resonance with the reactance X D of the transformer 3, which has an air gap.
