Abstract
124,430. Badin, R. E. Dec. 8, 1913, [Convention date]. Indicators actuated by pressure of head of liquid.-In apparatus of the kind in which the level of a liquid is indicated at a distance by measuring the pressure necessary to force air slowly and continuously through a pipe dipping into the liquid, air is forced into a pipe 3, Fig. 1, having a capillary passage by a rubber bulb 7 or by a hand piston-pump. The air delivery pipe 9 is in communication with a pressure gauge 1. The air enters the delivery pipe through a fine passage formed by fitting a screw 10 loosely in the end of the pipe. In a modification, Fig. 2, the bulb is replaced by a hand pump having a cup-leather piston 16 serving as a suction valve. The pump barrel is connected on opposite sides of the piston to the dip pipe 3 and to the space above the liquid, corresponding connexions being made with the two sides of the diaphragm of the pressure gauge. In a further modification, a U-tube type of pressure gauge is used, and the air pump is of the kind comprising a sliding sleeve or barrel and a fixed cup-leather piston.
