Abstract

1,244,126. Glass fibre manufacture. COMPAGNIE DE SAINT-GOBAIN. 27 June, 1969 [10 July, 1968], No. 32657/69. Heading C1M. A centrifugal device for making fibres of glass or like thermoplastic material comprises a disc 1 connected to a vertical shaft 2 rotated by a motor via belts 3 and pulley 4. Molten glass 8 is fed to an annular groove 7 in the upper face of the disc from which it passes to the edge region 9 of the disc where it encounters jets of heated gas passing upwardly through holes 10 in the disc (from the burner 11 beneath), which detach the glass from the disc in filaments 20 which are attenuated by further gas jets. from the annular blowers 18 and 19.
