A device for guiding an edge strip 15, Fig. 6, which has been cut off from an endless web 13, e.g. of paper, during its passage through a cutting machine includes two strip-like plates 9, 10, Fig. 3, which lie in parallel relationship with each other and define an edge strip guiding channel, each plate 9, 10 having between two portions thereof which lie in a common plane, an intermediate region 4<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>1</SP> of its length which is bent upwardly or, as shown, downwardly from the common plane of the said two portions, the parallel relationship of the plates being maintained in this bent intermediate region and the amplitude of the bend in the bent region of each plate decreasing from one edge of the plate to the other. As described, the plates 9, 10 are joined by a block 11 and secured by a bent portion 12 of plate 9 to an edge cutter 6. An edge cutter 6 is placed at each side of a web 13 and strips 14, 15, Fig. 6, cut from the web by knife wheels 7, 8, Fig. 3, of cutters 6, are bent to travel in the directions B, Fig. 6., by plates 9, 10 so that the strips are spaced from the central portion of the web but in the same plane thereas when. the strips and web are cut transversely by a knife 16. The bent portions of plates 9, 10 may form part of the surface of a cone, or part of two adjacent faces of a tetrahedron.
