A horizontal rotary drum washing machine wherein the liquid tank is suspended by springs 10, 10', 10", 10"' and supported by arms 18, 19 so arranged as to prevent substantially vertical movement of the tank and movement parallel to its long axis, friction brake means 22, 23 engaging the tank which carries a counter weight. The plate 23 on tank 14 is engaged by a brake shoe 22 kept under pressure by a resilient rod 24.
