1,243,569. Hot pressing SiC -B 4 C mixtures. VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT ABRAZIVOV I. SHLIFOVANIA. Dec. 10, 1969, No. 60337/69. Heading C7D. SiC-B 4 C mixtures are hot pressed in a graphite mould by resistance heating according to the following formula: where Sc = cross-sectional area of moulded powder mixture (cm<SP>2</SP> ) S = cross-sectional area of the mould wall (cm<SP>2</SP>) p = specific electrical resistance (Ohm cm) of mould. The resistance heated graphite mould may also be placed inside a resistance heated graphite tube so as to conform with the formula: where S 1 and S 2 are the cross-sectional areas of the mould wall and heater wall respectively. A powder mixture of 85% SiC and 15% B 4 C was mixed with glycerine and optionally 1À5% silicic acid and hot-pressed to form rods, rings, bushes and nozzles.
