Abstract

1,243,145. Ethylene terephthalate-ethylene fluorenate copolyester. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. 9 April, 1969 [13 May, 1968], No. 18098/69. Heading C3R. A linear random ethylene terephthalate-ethylene fluorenate copolyester has repeating units represented by the formulµ in which R is hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, C 1-4 alkyl radical, or cycloalkyl and in which the ethylene fluorenate units comprise at least 2.5% of the sum of the ethylene terephthalate and ethylene fluorenate units in the copolyester. In the examples the copolyesters were made (i) by reacting ethylene glycol, D.M.T. and dimethyl bis-9,9-(#-earboxyethyl) fluorenate and polycondensing the product; and (ii) by heating ethylene glycol and D.M.T., adding 9,9(#-carboxyethyl)2-bromofluorene-dicarboxylic acid and further heating and then polycondensing the product.
