Abstract

1,242,220. Disc brakes. GIRLING Ltd. 25 Oct., 1968 [28 Oct., 1967], No. 49072/67. Heading F2E. A pad assembly comprises a plastically deformable element 26 for radially locating the assembly in a disc brake. A disc brake comprises a member 10 housing opposed hydraulically operated pistons 11, 12. One piston acts directly on the pad 15, the other on a yoke 13 which slides in grooves 14 in member 10 and supports another pad. The yoke is prevented by a spring 19 from rattling. The pads have back plates 20, 22 circumferentially located in arms 21, 23 of member 10 and yoke 13 respectively. The elements 26 are located on the backplates by tags 28 which are inserted in notches 29 and radially locate the backplates by ears 30 which slide in grooves 31, 32 in the arms 21, 23. Alternatively the deformable elements are attached by rivets 37 to the backplates. The elements may act as anti-squeal shims between the backplates and pistons. Pads are similarly located in a fixed caliper brake in which opposed pads are each actuated by two side-by-side pistons.
