Abstract
1,242,205. Signalling over power lines. LANDIS & GYR A.G. 21 Jan., 1970 [28 Jan., 1969], No. 2983/70. Heading H4R. Transmitting stations of audio-frequency signals, used for indication or control purposes, superimposed on a power supply network are co-ordinated by frequency dividing the supply voltage to produce a subharmonic of a pilot voltage at a central station and distributing it to each transmitting station where the pilot voltage is formed from the subharmonic and the audio-frequency signals are derived from the pilot voltage. As shown, the central station 1 has an input 3 at supply frequency fn which is converted in frequency divider 4 into a voltage at frequency fs which is a subharmonic of both the supply voltage and a pilot voltage. This voltage is used to amplitude modulate at 5 a carrier frequency voltage generated in oscillator 6 and this modulated voltage is transmitted after amplification at 7, 8 along individual paths 9 to transmitting stations 2. On receipt of the modulated voltage it is filtered and demodulated at 10, 11 respectively to reproduce the subharmonic voltage. From this voltage the pilot voltage is produced in frequency multiplier 13 and supplied to an audio frequency transmitter which superimposes a signal on the power network to provide the required indication or control. Any phase difference which occurs due to the length of a particular transmission path is corrected by comparison with the phase of the supply voltage.
