Abstract

1,241,898. Locks. G. TTBBE. 24 July, 1969, No. 37243/69. Heading E2A. A set of cylinder locks for an automobile, for example for an anti-theft device, the doors, the glove compartment and the trunk of the automobile, includes at least one cylinder look 1 which has both single tumblers 2 and pairs of tumblers 3, the latter having notches of the same depth, the set of locks having a master key for locking and unlocking all the locks, the key channel of at least the said one cylinder lock being so formed that the master key even if rotated about its axis through 180 degrees, can be inserted in the said cylinder lock, and the set of locks also having an auxiliary key formed with a key profile different from that of the master key so that the auxiliary key cannot lock and unlock all the cylinder locks of the set. The master and auxiliary keys may both have a longitudinal rib, the rib on the auxiliary key extending the full length thereof to prevent the key being fully inserted into trunk and glove compartment locks. The key channel in a lock may have grooves on either side to receive the key rib one of the grooves being formed with a rib receivable in a corresponding groove in the rib of the master key, and the boss of the auxiliary key for fitting in the recess of a lock cylinder may be wider than that of the master key.
