Abstract

1,241,486. Mattresses. E. P. R. VIEL. 29 Oct., 1969 [17 Feb., 1969; 17 June, 1969], No. 52928/69. Heading A4M. A mattress comprises a resilient foamed base layer 4 to which is secured a resilient foamed covering layer 5, 9 extending over a major portion of the surface of the base layer 4 but having cut-out regions 6, 7, 8, 10 in which the overlying layer is absent. The cut out regions may be filled either with a material which is softer than the overlying layer or with air cushions. The layers 4, 5 and 9 may be constructed to be inflated. As shown, one part 5 of the overlying layer is adhered to the base layer 4 and the other part 9 is adjustably secured by releasable fasteners (14) passed through selectively aligned apertures in the layers 4, 9. The layer part 9 may incorporate an electrical resistance heating element 17. The mattress may be fitted in a cover closable by sliding fasteners (22, 23, Fig. 8).
