Abstract

1,241,485. Hinge fitting. FRITZ KEIPER. 28 Oct., 1969, No. 52782/69. Heading E2F. [Also in Division A4] A hinge fitting for a vehicle seat having a movable back rest which may be tilted forwardly to facilitate entry to the rear of the vehicle, comprises two members 10, 11 secured respectively to the seat and back rest and pivotally connected by a shaft 12, member 11 having a locking ratchet 15 formed on it to cooperate with teeth 16 on a pawl 17 pivoted to member 10 at 18 and movable towards and away from member 11 by means of a guide pin 20 attached to a handle and engaging a slot 19 in the pawl which is biassed towards member 11 by means of a spring loaded lever 21 pivoted on shaft 12 and carrying the pin 20. The pawl 17 also carries a control member (38) having a projection 27 which cooperates with the guide face 28 of a pivoted arm 29 when the back rest is tilted forwardly to facilitate entry to the rear of the vehicle. The pivoted arm 29 has a bent projection 30 which engages an aperture 31 in member 11 for limited relative movement and is biassed into the position shown by a spring 32, and a projection 34 which engages projection 27 as the back rest is lifted moving projection 30 to the other side of aperture 31 and allowing ratchet 15 to move a distance over toothed portion 16 before engaging in a position pre-set by the location of aperture 31. A support face 36 of member 11 abuts stop means 35 with the back rest in a tiltedforward position, and a support face 37 of the locking pawl 17 with the back rest in a reclining position.
