Abstract

1366189 Adjustable seats P A RENTROP GmbH 26 Oct 1972 [28 Oct 1971] 49332/72 Heading A4J A vehicle seat is mounted for independent adjustment of the front and rear edges by providing at each edge a spindle 4, 5 rotatably mounted in the seat mounting, at least the spindle 5 at the rear being biased for rotation in a clockwise direction by a torsion spring and each spindle 4, 5 being pivotally connected to a pair of arms 29, 28 pivotally connected to the seat portion 1 and being rigidly connected to a toothed sector engageable with a pawl 10, 11 for locking the seat portion in an adjusted position. Each pawl 10, 11 is connected via an arm 18, 17 to a push rod 20, 19, the two push rods having slots 20a, 19a through aligned portions of which a pin 21 passes, the pin being fixed to an arm 22 rigidly connected to a spindle 23 rotatable by a hand lever 24 such that rotation of the hand lever 24 in the clockwise direction, pushes rod 19 to the right and through the engagement of the arm 17 with pawl 11 causes disengagement of the pawl 11 and sector 7 thereby allowing the spindle 5 to rotate with lifting of the rear edge of the seat portion through arms 28. On release of lever 24 the push rod moves to the left under action of a spring 25 connected between the two push rods. To lift the front edge of the seat the lever is turned anti-clockwise. Inadvertent disengagement of the pawl and toothed sector are prevented by the engagement of a projection on the arm 17 with an edge formed in a plate 13 on which the pawl is pivotally mounted.
