Abstract

1,241,402. Dental creams. COLGATEPALMOLIVE CO. 24 March, 1970 [21 April, 1969 (2)], No. 14119/70. Heading A5B. A storage-stable dental cream comprises a substantially water-insoluble polishing agent, benzyl alcohol, a stabilizer selected from ethanol, zinc oxide, zinc phosphate and alkali metal phosphates having a pK a of at least 7 in water at 25‹C, and a flavour which is clove or mint when the stabilizer is other than ethanol and is clove when the stabilizer is ethanol. Other conventional dental cream ingredients, e.g. a surfactant, a gelling agent, colours, flavours, fluorine-containing compounds, silicons, chlorophyll compounds, ammoniated materials, antibacterial agents, flavours, astringents, sialagogues and additional desensitizing agents such as benzocaine may also be present. The preferred polishing agents are water-insoluble calcium salts, aluminium hydroxide and hydrated alumina.
