Abstract

1,241,033. Web and roller display apparatus. BECKETT, LAYCOCK & WATKINSON Ltd. 15 Jan., 1969 [26 Jan., 1968], No. 4189/68. Heading G5C. Flexible display material 12, e.g. a bus destination indicator, which is wound on a pair of rollers 10, 11 is controlled by a drive through pinions 15, 16. Intermediate pinions 18 are novably mounted by means of links 19 to engage or disengage the drive, one pinion 18 being disengaged through energization of its related solenoid 21 when the drive to the pinion 15 of the opposing mechanism is actuated. Reengagement is effected by springs 22. The pinions 15 are driven by electric motors connected in a circuit with the solenoids 21. In the rest position of the device, as shown, both pinions 18 are engaged, thereby preventing vibrational creep of the material 12. A single reversible electric motor may be used, its sense of rotation determining which solenoid is energized.
