Abstract

1,240,621. Moulding upholstery supports. VITAFOAM Ltd. 1 Jan., 1969, No. 131/69. Heading B5A. [Also in Division A4] An open-topped mould 10 for forming rubber strips (13), or sheets, as upholstery supports has a series of depressions 14 defined between ribs 12 and a groove 14 at the end of each depression 14. Pegs 16 upstand from the ends of a rib 15 in the bottom of the groove 14 and terminate at the level of the upper edge 17 of the mould 10. In making a plurality of strips (13), a piece of uncured rubber is placed in the mould and the mould is placed in a press. The mould is heated whilst under pressure from the press platen so that the rubber flows to fill the mould and becomes vulcanized. The formed article comprises a series of strips with thickened ends formed in the grooves 14 and with holes and recesses, formed by the pegs 16 and ribs 15, in the thickened ends.
