Abstract

1,240,452. Boots &c. BEAR BRAND Ltd. 5 Aug., 1968 [24 Aug., 1967], No. 38951/67. Heading A3B. An article of footwear 1, e.g. a slipper or casual shoe, is made by cutting from suitable material a blank having a sole portion 2A, side portions 2B and a toe upper portion 3 all integral with one another, seaming together the rear ends 8 of the side portions 2B to form a heel and seaming together the opposite edges 4 of the toe upper portion 3 to the edges 5 of the toe end of the side portions 2B. In a modificaton (not shown) the toe upper portion 3 is extended to form a tongue or flap for decoration. Suitable materials for making the article include woven and knitted fabrics, suede, suedette or leather splits, pliable plastics sheets such as polyvinyl chloride or foam laminated materials. The parts may be seamed together by sewing, overseaming heat seaming or welding, depending on the material used. An outer sole (not shown) may be applied by adhesive bonding, moulding or stitching if the shoe is to be used for outdoor wear.
