Abstract

1,240,035. Protective arrangements; electric cut-outs. FUJI DENKI SEIZO K.K. 17 Jan., 1969 [20 Jan., 1968; 31 Jan., 1968], No. 2914/69. Headings H2G and H2K. A protective arrangement comprises a circuit opening device 9 with a current conducting member 11 which may be ruptured by an electrically-ignitable explosive charge 13 connected to an ignition circuit including a current transformer 21 having its primary winding connected in series with the device 9. A fuse 6 may be connected in parallel with the device 9. When the charge 13 is fired, the member 11 is broken at a shoulder 11a of small cross-section and the part 11c is driven into a connecting terminal member 12. The member 12 is shaped so as to deform the end of the part 11c into a groove 18 where it is retained. A cavity 11d containing the charge 13 is filled with an arcextinguishing medium 14, e.g. silicone grease, petroleum oil or powder. Various ignition circuits are described and shown, these circuits being arranged so that protection is effected in the event of excess currents or a high rate of rise of the current or to reverse currents and a time delay may be provided.
