Abstract

1,240,032. Asphalt-levelling screeds. WIBAU WESTDEUTSCHE INDUSTRIE-U. STRASSENBAU-MASCHINEN G.m.b.H. 13 Jan., 1969 [12 Jan., 1968], No. 1888/69. Heading E1G. In an asphalt-levelling machine wherein a cross-beam 4 of a wheeled chassis carries a heated vibratory screed box 1, the forward surface 12 of the screed box is concave and overhangs the sole plate 13 with its front edge lower than its apex so that the surplus dumped asphalt W is formed into a roll. The screed box carries vibrator 7 and may comprise several side-by-side hollow sections adjustable to the road contour, each box 1 being suspended from vertically-adjustable pivots 3 and located by spring-loaded rods 5. each screed section is uniformly heated by an adjustable-temperature flue gas/air mixture distributed e.g. from an oil burner through a line 19 and openings 17, 16. The wheeled chassis, Fig. 1 (not shown) runs on rails (10) and incorporates jacks (11) adjusting the height of the cross-beam (4) to control the thickness of the levelled asphalt G.
