Abstract
1,240,031. Lasers. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 17 Dec., 1969 [8 Jan., 1969], No. 1224/69. Heading H1C. A laser discharge tube 1 formed of beryllia and containing argon, for example, is supported by a pair of rigid tubes 5, 9 surrounding and coaxial with the beryllia tube, the rigid tubes being slidably joined together to permit longitudinal expansion. The rigid tube 5 is sealed to a copper anode 3, while the rigid tube 9 is sealed to a mounting block 4 which is itself sealed to the discharge tube 1 by a beryllia cone 2. A bellows 6 connects rigid tube 5 to the mounting block, and the tube 5 and the bellows together form a cooling jacket through which water is passed from an inlet 7 to an outlet 8. A copper cathode housing 12 which is gas-tight-jointed to the beryllia core contains a cathode 10 with heater connections 11. The arrangement also includes Brewster windows 14, gas pump connections 13, a magnetizing coil 16 and end reflectors 14, 15.
