Abstract
1,240,001. Exhaust silencers. BRITURO SILENCERS Ltd. June 24, 1969 [July 16, 1968], No.33744/68. Heading F1B. An exhaust silencer for a motor cycle I.C. engine comprises a tubular sheet metal body 10 containing a perforated tube 16 and fibrous or particulate packing 27 retained therein by a cast metal end cap 30 which is readily detachable by removal of screws 36. The packing 27 may comprise steel wool wound generally helically along the tube 16. The tube 16 comprises two perforated portions 18, 19 welded together with a perforated baffle 20 therebetween, the baffle causing at least a portion of the exhaust gas to flow radially outwardly through the tube portion 18 into the material 27. A mounting strut 41 is adjustably connected to the silencer by a bolt 39 located in a slot 38 in a channel member 37 welded to the body 10.
