A type wheel 2 comprises a type-carrying rim 4 and a hub 3 keyed to a shaft 1, interconnected by a flexible element 5 which allows diametrical deflection of the rim 4 with respect to the hub 3, but is resistant to relative rotation. The impression mechanism comprises an electromagnetically operated sliding element 8 which has a flange 14 extending into an annular groove 9 in the rim 4.
