Abstract
1,239,342. Transformers; inductors. M. R. WHEELER. 10 March, 1969 [18 March, 1968], No. 12484/69. Heading H1T. Finned, metallic heat dissipators 17, 18, 20, 21, 22, 24, 25, 26 are used to transfer heat from a core 15 or windings 16, 16À1 of a transformer or inductor into a gaseous or liquid cooling medium, or from tank or radiator surfaces (Figs. 13-15, not shown) into the ambient air. The dissipators are of sheet form and have a plurality of fins which are punched and bent at right angles to the sheet which may project beyond the transformer part with which it is in thermal contact. Such projecting portions may be slit and twisted and/or bent to form additional cooling fins (Fig. 3, not shown). Dissipators in the form of radially slotted and finned sectors (30, Figs. 6, 7, not shown) for use with disc coils are described. When used internally of windings, dissipators may additionally serve as electrostatic screens or earth shields.
