Abstract

1,238,769. Grinding. MASCHINENFABRIK ERNST THIELENHAUS. 27 May, 1969 [30 July, 1968], No. 26714/69. Heading B3D. A process for grinding a flat surface on to a workpiece 1 comprises placing the workpiece 1 on a support plate 2, moving the support plate or a grinding tool 3 to bring a flat face 4 of the tool into engagement with the workpiece and urge it against the plate, setting the plate or tool in its adjusted position, rotating the tool or plate until the grinding pressure between the tool and the workpiece diminishes due to release of elastic stress in the workpiece, again pressing the workpiece between the tool and support plate to determine a second setting of the tool or plate, setting the tool or plate in that second position and rotating the tool or plate until the grinding pressure again diminishes, this cycle being repeated until the workpiece has been ground sufficiently flat. When the tool is rotated to effect the grinding it may also be rotated as it is moved to urge the workpiece against the support plate.
