Abstract
123,837. Randall, F. L. March 9, 1918. Clutches, claw.-In positive clutches, a cylindrical pin driven by the driving- shaft may rotate idly coaxially with the driving and driven shafts in a block which may be moved with the pin radially in the driven shaft to cause the drive to be transmitted between the two shafts. The cylindrical pin 30 bears in a block 31, the square exterior of which engages a. slot 8 in a part 4 on the driven shaft 3. The pin 30 has a ball head 25 with grooves engaged by pins 21 on a spherical cup 16 itself grooved to engage pins 12 on a socket 9 secured to the driving-shaft 1, the joint thus formed permitting the pin 30 to be swung outwards in the slot 8 at definite points in the relative rotation of the shafts 1, 3, so that the shaft 3 may be driven. The pin 30 is held in the position shown by a clutch collar 41 connected by rods to a collar 39 which moves the block 31 through links 37. a curved lever 34, and a forked link 33. When the collar 41 is released a tension spring 40 secured to the collar 39 moves the block 31 outwards in the slot to clutching- position. More than one cup 16 may be provided.
