Abstract
1,237,948. Travelling-wave tubes. SIEMENS A.G. 12 Dec., 1968 [13 Dec., 1967], No. 59043/68. Heading H1D. A component of a discharge tube-e.g. an envelope portion, waveguide, delay line, or the collector, of a travelling-wave tube-is formed by a stack of plates of pyrolitic carbon united, by electron beam welding, for example, by interposed rings or foils of molybdenum or tantalum, whereby the high thermal conductivity in their plane of the thermally anisotropic plates enhances the dissipation of heat generated in the stack during operation of the tube. The plates may be apertured, and the plates, and the apertures therein, may be of different sizes, to provide a desired inner or outer profile for the component. To enhance the electrical conductance of the stack, the surfaces of the plates may be coated with rhenium and a superposed layer of copper or silver.
